Branching out and having FUN!

About a month ago, I wrote a blog about my new collaboration with Cim MacDonald working in our clay project called Tidal Explorations.Tidal Pool If you pick up a copy of the Island Arts Magazine, you will see our work featured on the front page as well as in the month of September. We are very excited about this new work. More on that later…

…meanwhile…

I started taking painting classes from Cim. The Thursday morning painting group is comprised of three seasoned students who have been working with her for a long time. When I joined in, they were planning their annual student exhibition. Imagine my surprise when they insisted that I take part in the show. I am, after all, a raw beginner. However, under Cim’s urging and the others’ support, I agreed to submit some paintings along with some of my three dimensional tiles pieces.

Here are my first three “keepers”:

Brad scanned my images for prosperity and Cim framed Misty Mountains and Winter Lagoon for the show.

“Students of Cim MacDonald” Art Show can be viewed at 49th Parallel Cafe in Ladysmith BC from October 15th – November 15th. Watercolours and acrylics are exhibited by Elizabeth Hale, Sonja Tait and Fran Willgress while watercolours and ceramic 3D tiles represent the work of yours truly. I hope you get a chance to pop by to see it! Tell the kind folks at 49th Cafe how much you appreciate them supporting local aspiring artists.

Here are some glimpses. (Note: it turns out I am a better painter than photographer! Comforting thought for the fragile baby artist within!)

To go back to being a beginner after many years as a professional ceramic artist has it’s challenges, but ultimately, it is very good for the soul! I look forward to learning more and more with the support of my wonderful teacher Cim MacDonald and fellow students who are so accepting of my presence as we all play and grow together!
